lyrics
On the sand in the sun they broke cover
And the day was stripped and dry
A thousand voices rose as God knows
and sang to the falling sky
On the road in the fields they lay still
Till the birds had picked them clean
A thousand voices grew and God Knew
Of the heads and the hands unseen
In the house in the square they had bullets
And their sights were trained and true
Two thousand years had passed since God last
Had Walked where the same grass grew
From the beach in the wind they set sail
And their chance was slim or none
A thousand hopes went west and God blessed
The moon and the stars and the sun

The first official outing of the "what would be" Steve Rothery Band. Riccardo Romano was missing with his keyboard wizardry and no singer at all (later Martin Jakubsky of Stillmarillion). Marillion's catalogue was represented by excerpts of instrumental sections where Steve had his solo spot. This is a milestone in the forming of a great band that later became the spokesman of early Marillion era and of course of Steve's solo material. If you want to hear how it all started you have to get this Alessandro Carmassi

An instrumental album centered around Matt Stevens' acoustic guitar plus a few other instruments (and samples). Melodies, colours, moods, all there. Nice work! Carsten Pieper
